MAMI Independent

Beginning a fresh chapter, the Mumbai Film Festival presents MAMI Independent, a brand-new offering aimed at providing a much-needed platform that will showcase bold, independent contemporary cinema from India and around the world on the big screen through a year-round weekly screening programme.

MAMI Independent is the first, meaningful step towards building an ecosystem for independent cinema, offering independent filmmakers the opportunity to present their films and interact with an audience that will bring together cinephiles, industry professionals, and emerging filmmakers. These screenings will create opportunities for filmmakers to reach new audiences and for audiences to discover new voices and perspectives in contemporary cinema.

These are films that break the mould, where voices rise unfettered from the margin; these are films that look closely at the world inviting us not just to watch, but to feel, to question, to linger. These are films, often made on shoestring budgets with minimal resources, with hope and passion, that tend to be drowned in the deluge of films that dominate the media and public consciousness. MAMI Independent aims to shine the light on these films and bring them out of the shadows and give them their moment in the sun.

Starting 25 February 2026, every Wednesday at 7 p.m. at PVR Lido in Juhu, audiences in Mumbai will get to watch an exciting selection of contemporary independent features, documentaries, shorts, and experimental films from India.

Welcome to a celebration of cinema that listens, cinema that risks, cinema that reminds us why stories matter.

Register with us to be invited to MAMI Independent screenings every Wednesday and discover India’s leading voices in independent cinema.

If you are a filmmaker and would like your film to be part of the MAMI Independent programme, reach out to us through this form or get in touch at mamiindependent@mumbaifilmfest.com. Your application will be considered by the selection panel.
