1 – Description
The International Competition section of the Jio MAMI 20th Mumbai Film Festival with Star is open to debut filmmakers worldwide whose films have been completed after 31st July 2017. It is a prestigious platform that shines a spotlight on new cinematic voices. This competitive section aims to present innovative works of merit by first time fiction or documentary features made after 31st July 2017, discover new talents, promote them and offer networking possibilities within the entertainment industry.
2 - Films eligible to participate
The sections are open to only feature length films (fiction and documentaries). The minimum length of a feature length film (fiction or documentary) should be 60 minutes.
All films that are submitted must be screened in their original language with English subtitles wherever applicable. The cost of subtitling is the sole responsibility of the producer.
Dubbed versions of films from other languages are not eligible for submission. For films in non-English language, screener should also have English subtitles.
Only 35mm or DCP projection formats are accepted.
For the International Competition, it is mandatory that the film be the first fiction or documentary feature film of the director.
Films submitted in any form in earlier editions are ineligible to apply. A film that has withdrawn from earlier editions cannot re-submit.
Participation at other international festivals outside India and / or applying in the 65th National and State Film Awards (2018) does not ensure entry into this section. The festival will not provide feedback on films or specific reasons for rejection for any film. The filmmaker will be notified about selection at the end of the selection process and no information will be divulged before that.
In terms of selection, preference will be given to World Premieres, International Premieres, Asian Premieres and Indian Premieres in that order.
Films applying do not require a certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). In case a film already has a certification, only the certified version will be considered for screening. For films not having certification, screening will be subject to an exemption from the Ministry of I&B, Govt. of India. For films that apply or receive a Certification during the selection process, regardless of the submitted version, the certified version only will be screened.
The festival director reserves the right to settle all cases not covered by the guidelines and to grant exceptions in special cases. All cases will be governed by and construed in all respects in accordance with the laws of India and settled under the exclusive jurisdiction of courts of Mumbai.
The films must have been completed after 31st July, 2017.
The films should not have been presented in India either theatrically (commercially or in Festivals) or released on video/DVD/telecast/internet/VOD.
3 - Media accepted for selection
The festival only accepts non-downloadable & password protected online screeners. Please submit the same as part of your form submission.
