Suzan is spending the summer holidays with her grandmother while her mother goes to Syria as a war reporter. She forms a close friendship with Rana – a Syrian girl, who lives in the nearby refugee camp – much to the disapproval of her friends.
Sanne Vogel started working as a writer, director, and actress in the theatre when she was only 16 years old. She directed her first solo feature film, Hartenstraat (2013), which received great commercial success, followed by Brasserie Valentijn (2014). In 2017, Sanne wrote and directed the stage play Nieuwe Familie, a story about a special friendship told with the help of two Syrian refugees.
