Mumbai Academy of Moving Image invites films to take part in the Internation Competition section.
International Competition is open to debut filmmakers worldwide whose films have been completed after 25th October, 2019. It is a prestigious platform that shines a spotlight on new cinematic voices. Through this competitive section, the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival aims to present innovative works of merit by first time fiction or documentary features.
Debut Indian films are also eligible to participate in the International Competition section of the festival.
This section is open to only feature length films (fiction and documentaries). The minimum duration of a feature length film (fiction or documentary) should be 50 minutes or more.
All films that will be screened at the festival will be screened in their original language with English subtitles. Films whose original language is English, will also require English subtitles. The cost of subtitling is the sole responsibility of the producer.
Dubbed versions of films from other languages are not eligible for submission. For films in non-English languages, the online screener must have English subtitles. In case an online screener of a film is submitted without subtitles, it will be ineligible for selection.
Only 35mm or DCP projection formats are accepted.
Films submitted in any form to earlier editions of the festival are ineligible to apply. A film that has been withdrawn from participation in earlier editions cannot be re-submitted to the festival.
Participation at other international festivals outside India and/or applying in the 67th National and State Film Awards (2020) does not ensure entry into this section.
The festival will not provide feedback on films or specific reasons for selection or rejection of any film.
Only the filmmakers who make it to the official selection of the festival will be notified about selection at the end of the selection process and no information will be divulged before that.
The festival will notify the selected filmmakers.
The Festival Director reserves the right to settle all cases not covered by the guidelines and to grant exceptions in special cases. All cases will be governed by and construed in all respects in accordance with the laws of India and settled under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Mumbai. The festival director also reserves the right to remove any film from the selection in any special cases as deemed by the festival.
The films must have been completed after 25th October, 2019.
Films that are works-in-progress are accepted on the condition that the submitted version will be the only one watched by the selection committee. Once submitted as a work-in-progress, the film is ineligible to apply for future editions of the festival, in any other form. If selected, a final version of the film in DCP format (with English subtitles) must be available to the festival by 5th October, 2020.
Films that submit to the International Competition section can use the same form to also apply to India Gold, India Story and World Cinema sections. In case your film is eligible to apply to multiple sections, please tick the applicable checkboxes in the form in order to be considered for those sections. If submitted in more than one section the selection committee will reserve the right to choose the most appropriate section for the film, if it is selected.
Films submitted to the above sections can also be selected by the festival for curated sections which can’t be applied to, such as Half Ticket, Discovering India, After Dark or Spotlight. If selected, the selection committee reserves the right to choose the most appropriate section for the film. This decision of the festival will be communicated to the filmmaker and if the filmmaker accepts the decision then the film will screen in the section selected for the film, by the festival.
If selected, the representatives of the selected film must keep this information confidential (including on social media) till the official press conference of the Jio MAMI 22nd Mumbai Film Festival, where the final list of selected films will be announced. Breach of this will make the selection of the film liable to be cancelled.
