Mumbai Academy of Moving Image invites films to take part in the India Gold section.
1 – Description
India Gold presents the best of Indian fiction and documentary feature films completed after 31st July, 2018. India Gold is a competition section for the Indian feature films. Through this section, the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival with Star showcases breakthrough contemporary Indian films produced in India after 31st July, 2018.
Debut Indian films are also eligible to participate in the International Competition section of the festival.
2 - Eligibility
This section is open to only feature length films (fiction and documentaries). The minimum duration of a feature length film (fiction or documentary) should be 50 minutes or more.
All films that will be screened at the festival will be screened in their original language with English subtitles. Films whose original language is English, will also require English subtitles. The cost of subtitling is the sole responsibility of the producer.
Dubbed versions of films from other languages are not eligible for submission. For films in non-English languages, the online screener must have English subtitles. In case an online screener of a film is submitted without subtitles, it will be ineligible for selection.
Only 35mm or DCP projection formats are accepted.
Films submitted in any form in earlier editions are ineligible to apply. A film that has withdrawn from participation in earlier editions cannot re-submit to the festival.
Participation at other international festivals outside India and / or applying in the 66th National and State Film Awards (2019) does not ensure entry into this section. The festival will not provide feedback on films or specific reasons for rejection for any film.
Only the filmmakers who make it to the official selection of the festival will be notified about selection at the end of the selection process and no information will be divulged before that.
Films applying to the festival do not require a certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). In case a film already has a certification, only the certified version will be considered for screening. For films not having certification, the screening will be subject to an exemption from the Ministry of I&B, Govt. of India for which the festival will apply on behalf of the selected films. For films that apply or receive a Certification during the selection process, regardless of the submitted version, only the certified version will be screened. All screenings are subject to censor exemption. In case a film does not receive a censor exemption, it will not be screened.
The festival director reserves the right to settle all cases not covered by the guidelines and to grant exceptions in special cases. All cases will be governed by and construed in all respects in accordance with the laws of India and settled under the exclusive jurisdiction of courts of Mumbai.
The festival reserves the right to remove any film from the selection as deemed fit by the festival.
The films must have been completed after 31st July, 2018.
The Director(s) must be Indian citizen(s) AND at least one of the producers must be an Indian citizen.
All films shown in this section have to be India Premieres. India Premiere means that the film should not have been screened in India either theatrically (commercially or in Film Festivals), released on video / DVD / telecast / internet / VOD. The films should not be available on any public platform. Private previews are exempt. Preference will be given to World & Asia Premieres.
Films that are Works in Progress are accepted on the condition that the submitted version will be the only one watched by the selection committee. Once submitted as a work in progress, the film is ineligible to apply for future editions of the festival, in any other form. If selected, a final version of the film in DCP format (with English subtitles) must be available to the Festival by the 15th September, 2019.
Films that submit to the India Gold section can use the same form to also apply to India Story and International Competition sections. In case your film is eligible to apply to multiple sections, please tick the applicable checkboxes in the form in order to be considered for those sections. If submitted in more than one section the selection committee will reserve the right to choose the most appropriate section for the film, if it is selected.
Films submitted to this section can also be selected by the festival for curated sections which can’t be applied to, such as Half Ticket, Discovering India or Spotlight. The selection committee reserves the right to choose the most appropriate section for the film, if selected. This decision of the festival will be communicated to the filmmaker and if the filmmaker accepts the decision then the film will screen in the section selected for the film, by the festival.
If selected, the representatives of the selected film must keep this information confidential (including on social media) till the official press conference of the Jio MAMI 21st Mumbai Film Festival with Star, where the final list of selected films will be announced. Breach of this will make the selection of the film liable to be cancelled.
