GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival is a FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers Associations) accredited festival and is subject to its guidelines.
Submissions to the Jio MAMI 22nd Mumbai Film Festival will open on 15th March, 2020. If you have any queries regarding submissions, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please read the rules and regulations carefully before filling the entry/submission form.
Only the rights holder is eligible to fill the form. You are solely responsible for the authenticity of the information provided by you. In case of ANY discrepancies found in the information provided by you, your entry will be disqualified.
An applicant submitting a film to the festival must confirm that he/she has the requisite authority or has obtained the requisite authority from the rights holder to submit this film in the Jio MAMI 22nd Mumbai Film Festival and make available the film for screening.
The applicant will be the main point of contact for all future communications regarding this entry in the festival.
SECTIONS OPEN FOR ENTRIES
We accept film submissions to the following sections at the festival:
India Gold: presents the best of Indian fiction and documentary feature films. Through this section, the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival showcases breakthrough contemporary Indian films produced in India.
India Story: presents Indian feature films of great merit to the Indian audience and international guests. This section of the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival focuses on diversity and bringing best quality films from various regions of the country. This is a non-competitive section.
International Competition: is a prestigious platform that shines a spotlight on new cinematic voices. Through this section, the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film aims to present innovative works of merit by first time fiction or documentary features, discover new talents, and promote them.
World Cinema: features the India premieres of critically acclaimed feature and documentary films from all over the world. Through this section, the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival aims to provide a glimpse into various cultures from around the world and to promote exemplary and stellar works of cinematic works.
Dimensions Mumbai: showcases short films made by young filmmakers from Mumbai between the ages of 18 and 25. It is a platform for young filmmakers to display their talent and celebrate the city of dreams.
Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films: was introduced to acknowledge the growing importance of the short film format. The mission is to celebrate original short films and help aspiring young filmmakers get an opportunity to screen their works. Submissions for this section will open at a later date.
Films submitted to the above sections can also be selected by the festival for curated sections which can’t be applied to, such as Half Ticket, Discovering India, After Dark or Spotlight. If selected, the selection committee reserves the right to choose the most appropriate section for the film. This decision of the festival will be communicated to the filmmaker and if the filmmaker accepts the decision then the film will screen in the section selected for the film, by the festival.
Films submitted in any form to earlier editions of the festival are ineligible to apply. A film that has been withdrawn from participation in earlier editions cannot be re-submitted to the festival.
Films that are works-in-progress are accepted on the condition that the submitted version will be the only one watched by the selection committee. Once submitted as a work-in-progress, the film is ineligible to apply for future editions of the festival, in any other form. If selected, a final version of the film in DCP format (with English subtitles) must be available to the festival by 5th October, 2020.
The minimum duration of a feature length film (fiction or documentary) should be 50 minutes or more.
Participation at other international festivals outside India and/or applying in the 67th National and State Film Awards (2020) does not ensure entry into the festival.
The films must have been completed after 10th July, 2019 in order for it to be eligible for India Gold, India Story, and Dimensions Mumbai section. For International Competition and World Cinema sections, the date of completion must be 25th October, 2019 or after.
The Festival Director reserves the right to settle all cases not covered by the guidelines and to grant exceptions in special cases. All cases will be governed by and construed in all respects in accordance with the laws of India and settled under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Mumbai. The festival director also reserves the right to remove any film from the selection in any special cases as deemed by the festival.
To be eligible for the festival, the submitted film must have the following premiere status as of 12th November, 2020:
India Gold: India Premiere
India Story: India Premiere
International Competition: India Premiere
World Cinema: India Premiere
Dimensions Mumbai: India Premiere
In terms of selection, preference will be given to:
World Premiere (means that the film has never been screened anywhere publicly)
International Premieres (means that the film has only been screened publicly in its country of origin)
Asia Premiere (means that the film has only been screened publicly outside of Asia)
India Premiere (means that the film should not have been screened in India either theatrically (commercially or in Film Festivals), had a public screening in India, film club / private club screening, screenings at educational institutions or released on video / DVD / telecast / internet / VOD. The films should not be available on any public platform. Private previews are exempt)
A public screening is when the film is screened for the general public. This could be a paid or a free screening, but if it is listed on any print literature or internet announcing the film with a date, time, venue and open to the general or specific public to attend, it will be counted as a public screening.
A private preview refers to screenings for cast and crew, producers, and/or distributors.
CENSOR EXEMPTION AND CERTIFICATE
Films applying to the festival do not require a certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
In case a film already has a certification, only the certified version will be considered for screening.
For films not having certification, the screening will be subject to an exemption from the Ministry of I&B, Govt. of India for which the festival will apply on behalf of the selected films.
For films that apply or receive a censor certificate during the selection process, regardless of the submitted version, only the certified version will be screened. If selected, the status of the censor certificate has to be communicated to the festival team by 5th October, 2020 without any change in the same until the festival has concluded i.e. 12th November, 2020.
All screenings are subject to censor exemption. In case a film does not receive a censor exemption, it will not be screened.
MEDIA ACCEPTED FOR SELECTION
The festival only accepts non-downloadable & password protected online screeners. Please submit the same as part of your form submission. We do not accept any submission via any other methods.
The festival does not accept film screener links where the film can be downloaded. (For example: Google Drive)
The password-protected film screener link must be active at least till 15th September, 2020.
In case the online film screener shared is not password protected, the festival cannot be held responsible for the security of the film screener.
Please do not send links where an email login is required to access the film screener. (For example: Withoutabox, Cinando)
Please note that we will not accept multiple links for one submission.
No requests for private screenings to selection committee members will be entertained. All films have to submit directly to the Jio MAMI 22nd Mumbai Film Festival only through the above-mentioned methods.
All online film files will be destroyed / deleted immediately after the selection process of the festival is over.
All films have to be submitted in their original version with English subtitles. In case the original language of the film is English, then English subtitles are still required. The cost of subtitling is the sole responsibility of the producer.
Dubbed versions of films from other languages are not eligible for submission. For films in non-English languages, the online screener must have English subtitles. In case an online screener of a film is submitted without subtitles, it will be ineligible for selection.
A submission fee is applicable to all entries to the festival. Payment can be made online or through a cheque or via bank transfer after the form has been completed. Details of this are at the end of the entry form once you reach the payment gateway. According to your choice of mode of payment, all details will appear on screen.
This fee is non-refundable and does not include the transaction charges of the payment gateway.
Any request for a discount or waiver cannot be granted.

For India Gold, India Story, International Competition, World Cinema
15th March, 2020 to 17th April 2020 – Rs. 5,000 (approx. USD 69)
18th April, 2020 to 18th June 2020 – Rs. 7,000 (approx. USD 95)
19th June, 2020 to 1st July 2020 – Rs. 10,000 (approx. USD 136)
For Dimensions Mumbai
15th March, 2020 to 19th June 2020 – Rs. 500
20th June, 2020 to 1st July 2020 – Rs. 1,000
A submission is considered complete when ALL (3) the following criteria are met. Only on acknowledgement of receipt of all three is the submission considered complete.
A correctly filled online submission form
The film screener reaches the festival team
Realisation of payment of submission fees.
The deadline for completed entry forms, payment of submission fees, and submission of the online film screener to the festival must be strictly observed. The last date of completing submission is 1st July, 2020.
The festival accepts work-in-progress submissions subject to the following conditions:
The first copy submitted will be the ONLY copy considered by the selection committee and the programmers for the festival.
A DCP of the FINAL VERSION of the film must reach the festival team 30 days before the start date of the festival i.e. 5th October, 2020 in case your film is selected.
If the final version of the film fails to reach on time, the film will be disqualified and will not be eligible for future editions of the festival as well.
SELECTION OF FILMS
The festival will not provide feedback on films or specific reasons for selection or rejection of any film.
Only the filmmakers who make it to the official selection of the festival will be notified about selection at the end of the selection process and no information will be divulged before that.
The festival will notify the selected filmmakers by 10th August, 2020.
If selected, the representatives of the selected film must keep this information confidential (including on social media) till the official press conference of the Jio MAMI 22nd Mumbai Film Festival, where the final list of selected films will be announced. Breach of this will make the selection of the film liable to be cancelled.
Many of the films from the official selection feature child actors in some capacity or the other. But Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festivalr is a festival only for people who are of the age 18 and above. Therefore, anyone under the age of 18 cannot attend any of our screenings, regardless of how instrumental they were to the film. The festival maintains the strictest of policies on those under the age of 18 attending screenings, regardless of whether they are talent, delegates or affiliated to the film team.
FOR SELECTED FILMS
Only 35mm or DCP projection formats are accepted.
With respect to selected films, once a DCP has been submitted, it cannot be changed for another unless the festival team asks for a new file or an error is discovered during tech-check.
The festival will not screen films with any watermarks.
If selected, the festival will bear the costs for the storage and insurance of the DCP for the period during which the film is with the festival.
In the event the DCP is damaged or gets lost during the festival, the festival’s liability is limited to the costs of replacement of ONLY the damaged component on which the DCP is stored (USB and/or external hard drive).
TIn the event of any apparent damage to the DCP after it has been sent back from the festival office, the corresponding damage report and/or compensation claim must be received by the festival within 14 days after receipt of the media.
If any damages are incurred on a DCP / 35mm print of a film, no claims will be entertained (even within the 14-day window after receipt of the media) if the DCP / 35mm print has been used in the interim between return of the print by the festival and the date of claim.
The official festival logo with “Official Selection 2020” should be displayed in all advertising and promotional material of all the films selected for screening in the festival. These should also be clearly visible for theatrical release as well as for Video/DVD/Digital distribution in India and abroad. All selected films will receive a digital logo of the festival. Award-winning films will receive the appropriate logo with the name of the award.
