FESTIVAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

  1. All films that are submitted must be screened in their original language with English subtitles. Films whose original language is English, will also require English subtitles. The cost of subtitling is the sole responsibility of the producer.

  2. Dubbed versions of films from other languages are not eligible for submission. For films in non-English language, screener must have English subtitles. In case a screener of a non-English language film is submitted without subtitles, it will be ineligible for selection.

  3. Only DCP or 35mm projection formats are accepted.

  4. Films submitted in any form in earlier editions are ineligible to apply. A film that has been withdrawn from participation in earlier editions cannot be re-submitted to the festival.

  5. Participation at other international festivals outside India and / or applying in the 66th National and State Film Awards (2019) does not ensure entry into this section. The festival will not provide feedback on films or specific reasons for rejection of any film. The filmmaker will be notified about selection at the end of the selection process and no information will be divulged before that.

  6. Films applying do not require a certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). In case a film already has a certification, only the certified version will be considered for screening. For films not having certification, screening will be subject to an exemption from the Ministry of I&B, Govt. of India. For films that apply or receive a Certification during the selection process, regardless of the submitted version, only the certified version will be screened. All screenings are subject to censor exemption. In case a film does not receive a censor exemption, it will not be screened.

  7. The festival director reserves the right to settle all cases not covered by the guidelines and to grant exceptions in special cases. All cases will be governed by and construed in all respects in accordance with the laws of India and settled under the exclusive jurisdiction of courts of Mumbai. The festival director also reserves the right to remove any film from the selection in any special cases as deemed by the festival.

  8. The films must have been completed after 31st July, 2018 in order for it to be eligible for India Gold, India Story, and Dimensions Mumbai section. For International Competition and World Cinema sections, the date of completion must be 2nd November, 2018 or after.

  9. All films shown in the India Gold, India Story, Dimensions Mumbai, International Competition, World Cinema, Rendezvous with French Cinema, After Dark, Discovering India, Spotlight, and Half Ticket sections have to be India Premieres. It should not have been presented in India either theatrically (commercially or in Film Festivals), released on video / DVD / telecast / internet / VOD. The films should not be available on any public platform. Private previews are exempt.

  10. Works in Progress will be accepted. The version submitted will be the only one watched by the selection committee. Once submitted as a work in progress, the film is ineligible to apply for future editions of the festival, in any other form. If selected, a final version of the film in DCP format must be available to the Festival by the 15th September, 2019.

  11. If a film is submitted in more than one section the program committee will reserve the right to choose the most appropriate section for the film, if selected.

  12. Films submitted can also be selected by the festival for curated sections which can’t be applied to, such as Half Ticket, Discovering India or Spotlight. The selection committee reserves the right to choose the most appropriate section for the film, if selected. This decision of the festival will be communicated to the filmmaker and if the filmmaker accepts the decision then the film will screen in the section selected for the film, by the festival.

  13. In terms of selection, preference will be given to World Premieres, International Premieres, Asia Premieres, and India Premieres in that order.

  14. If selected, the representatives of the selected film must keep this information confidential (including on social media) till the official press conference of the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival with Star, where the final list of selected films will be announced. Breach of this will make the selection of the film liable to be cancelled.

  15. Many of the films from our official selection feature child actors in some capacity or the other. We are unable to let anyone under the age of 18 attend any of our screenings, regardless of how instrumental they were to the film. The festival maintains a strict zero tolerance guideline on those under the age of 18 attending screenings, be they talent or delegates.

  16. The festival only accepts non-downloadable & password protected online screeners. Please submit the same as part of your submission.

  17. No requests for private screenings to selection committee members will be entertained. All films have to submit directly to the Jio MAMI 21st Mumbai Film Festival with Star only through the above mentioned methods.

  18. If selected, the Festival will bear the costs for the storage and insurance of the DCP for the period during which the film is with the festival.

  19. In the event the DCP is damaged or gets lost during the Festival, the Festival’s liability is limited to the costs of replacement of ONLY the damaged component on which the DCP is stored (USB and/or external hard drive).

  20. In the event of any apparent damage to the DCP after it has been sent back from the festival office, the corresponding damage report and/or compensation claim must be received by the Festival within 14 days after receipt of the media.

  21. If any damages are incurred on a DCP/35mm print of a film, no claims will be entertained (even within the 14 day window after receipt of the media) if the DCP/print has been used in the interim between return of the print by the festival and the date of claim.

  22. The official Festival logo or “Official Selection 2019” should be displayed in all advertising and promotional material of all the films selected for screening in the festival. These should also be clearly visible for theatrical release as well as for Video/DVD/Digital distribution in India and abroad. All selected films will receive a digital logo of the festival. Award-winning films will receive the appropriate logo with the name of the award.

  23. An applicant submitting a film to the festival must confirm that he/she has the requisite authority or has obtained the requisite authority from the producer/right holder to enter this film in the Jio MAMI 21st Mumbai Film Festival with Star and make available the print for screening.
