Ten-year-old Tashi and his ageing grandma live as tenants to a wealthy family, In a remote mountain village in Darjeeling. Their job is to look after the family’s cardamom orchard and guard it at night from wild animals. An approaching wedding at their patron’s house excites Tashi. But will they invite him?
Saurav Rai is a direction and screenplay-writing alumnus from the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, India. Nest (Gudh, 2016), his diploma short film from the Institute was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in the Cinéfondation selection and the Tel Aviv International Student Film Festival. Rai believes in simplicity and takes keen interest in the folk tales and mythology of his village. Invitation is his debut feature film.
